Good morning all hope it isn’t too hot, wet or cold where you are, it’s not too bad here cold but not too cold. Well here we are with some more Aussie Slang maybe old slang no longer used or current slang we will see.

Harold Holt: as in to do a Harold Holt meaning to bolt do a runna

Hoon: Hooligans

Journo: Journalist

Footy: Aussie rules football or rugby league depending what State you are in.

Freo: Fremantle

These are still used by many people

  1. I had to Google Harold Holt, but I recognised the rest. I have a running debate with my nephew over the use of footy. He insists that Aussie Rules is footy, whilst we Brits play soccer. He refuses to accept that our ancient teams are called “Football Clubs,” i.e., Liverpool Football Club (LFC) or MUFC … Machester United Football Club. Very rarely does anyone over here call it soccer, and never when I was a kid. Rugby over here is just rugby.
