Week 48 of 2025

Good morning, all, I hope all is well with everyone.

Sunday has arrived after good night’s sleep for me with 9hrs & 23 minutes, the app says I was awake for 41 minutes during the night. This may be due to Tim waking me at midnight saying he didn’t have his restless legs medication and had me get out of bed to look for it, turns out he doesn’t have any. I checked the chemist app and that says there is no script on file, he is going to go and speak to them at 9am when they open.

My BGL this morning was 7.1 and the temp at 6am was 19C or 66F.

It started raining around 8.30am and the temp was 21C or 69F but it didn’t last long. It turned out to be a nice warm day. We had a top temp of 25C or 77F.

Steps:10,609 = 5.3klm’s or 3.2miles

My Chrisco arrived today, I had forgotten that I ordered and ice cream hamper and had to get Sue to come and help me unpack it. The freezer is now choke ablock can’t get another thing in it.

Everything I tried to eat today ended up a mess, I had a caramel tart and got it all over my hands, then when I had lunch, I got mayo all over my hands. Then I had some yogurt and got that also all over my hands.

Steps: 9,960 = 5klm’s or 3mile

Sue drove Sam and Jess to Sam’s doctor’s appointment as Jess didn’t want to wor4ry about finding a parking spot.

By midday it was 31C or 87F so I turned the air con on.

This afternoon Tasha and Blain came over to see me, which I liked, later Sam and Bailey came over. Then just after they left things went bad. I saw Jess coming over and she was crying their pet bunny called Opei died, Sam had just found him dead they had him for a long time as in like 10yrs.

Oddly Jess’s next door neighbour’s pet dog had died also around the same time.

I have arranged with Blain to take the Christmas gifts I have for my niece Kelli and her children to his dad’s place so they can be passed on at Christmas time.

Steps: 10,859 = 5.5klm’s or 3.5 miles

It is 18C or 64.4F at 5am and we are headed for a top of 30C or 86F, so another hot day.

I had to use the walker when I emptied the recycle boxes into the outside bin.

I had the air con on for 3hrs but turned it off at 1.30pm as even though it was 28C or 82F there was a nice breeze outside and with the doors open and the fans going it was ok.

Saw Blain again he came down twice once just to say hi the second time to get me to print up his resume.

Steps:5,502 = 2.6klm’s or 1.6miles

I slept straight through the night waking when the alarm went off, I was getting dressed in the bathroom and decided I needed to wash my hair, so I   had a shower.

It is 19C or 66F at 6am and we are looking at a top temp of 31C again. At the moment it is nice with the doors open.

My groceries will be delivered between 12 & 1 today that is late. After they arrived, I turn the air con on.

Tim has an appointment to get his Xray’s, and scans done. He is convinced they will show something bad but that is his negative attitude. He has thought things like this before and was wrong.

I started to sort through photos and add them to albums well I filled one album and sort the rest of the photos, tossing out a lot of duplicates. Still have a lot more to do and still can’t find my photo albums which is so annoying.

Eye Development

Ok I am pretty sure everyone knows that a baby is able to see as soon as it’s born and you may know that vision isn’t fully developed but continues to develop gradually over the next few months.

Before birth as early as 22 days of conception two shallow dips develop in the embryo, as the pregnancy progresses the eyes will form as the sight of these dips.

The progression is controlled by a series of genes, if any of these genes are abnormal, they eyes may not develop properly. There are conflicting thoughts about what other things may cause the eyes to not develop things like the mother being exposed to viruses, insecticides, radiation and environment pollution may cause deformed eyes, very small eyes or not having eyes at all.

At birth the structures are fully formed but the nerves that carry signals from the eye to the brain are not, light enters the eye so the baby can see but cannot make sense of what it sees.

A newborn can detect bright colours and big patterns and can focus on things 20-30cm’s away. Within a week they can distinguish their mother’s face.

By the time they are 3 months old they are able to focus on things around them and follow things with both eyes. They now blink when something is pushed towards their face, and their colour awareness has increased. Also, at this time their hand/eye coordination is starting to develop and will reach for things that attracts their attention.

By the age of 6 months most babies are starting to see as adults see, they can spot small objects and can accurately track movements up and down, side to side, backwards and forward. Their colour vision is fully developed.

By the time they are 1yr old the sense of sight is fully developed.

It is important to check a baby’s sight is developing properly as the sooner a problem is detected the sooner is can be tended to.  The first check should be at birth then at 6mths of age, the doctor is checking that both eyes are working together and that the baby isn’t near or far sighted.

By midday the temperature was 29C or 84F, Tim made me a chicken schnitzel bread roll for my lunch.

By 2pm it was 32C or 89F and my lower back/hip area is very painful with back spasms.

At around 4pm Tasha came down looking for food, Tim brought up how she is getting the careers allowance for me but is doing bugga all. Voices got raised and I felt stuck in the middle. Tasha pointed out that at this time I prefer having Sue’s company.

I have decided to use the walker instead of the cane to see if that helps with the hip pain.

I managed to do a load of washing and hang it out to dry.

I went to lunch with my sisters at Warners at the Bay, it was great we laughed a lot, and Sandy liked her birthday present from me.

Then I had my physio appointment, and the therapist was pleased with my progress. My next appointment is on the 11 November at 13.30. I took the walker when I went out.

My hip started to give me a lot of pain around 5pm.

DAD’S BIRTHDAY & MY NIECE ISSY’S AS WELL SHE IS TURNING 21

What a horrible night I had an interrupted night waking 3 times to pee. I went to bed at 8pm but at 10pm while trying to roll onto my left side I had a great deal of pain and was in distress, Tim came in and helped me get up and he rubbed deep heat into my hip and told me three times I need to see a doctor but I feel what’s the point it isn’t like anything can be done for the hip other then what I am already doing.

My watch says I had 5hrs & 31 mins of sleep which sounds about right to me. I felt part of the problem last night was that I was stiff, this morning the pain is still there but I am moving about and it’s not so bad.

It is 16C at 6am we are in for a hot day with the top being 31C, for all those not in my part of the world I will remind you we are still in spring.

We went shopping with Sue, then we went to the cemetery and left a birthday card for dad. When I got home, I was that exhausted that Tasha and Sue made me have a nap, after which I felt much better.

I have set the new laptop up and all is good.

Steps:9,322 = 4.7klm’s or 2.8 Miles

Falling over

Today we are looking at falling over, something that can happen to some people more as they age or if the develop a medical conditioned affecting someone’s balance and coordination. Falling is something I have done a few times in the last 4 years, thankfully I haven’t broken any bones but have had concussion a couple of times and have needed stitches after a couple of falls.

In fact, people fall for a variety of reasons, including environmental factors, physical and cognitive conditions, and even medication side effects. Common causes range from tripping hazards and poor lighting to muscle weakness, balance problems, and vision impairments.

Medications, especially those causing dizziness or drowsiness, and certain health conditions like diabetes or Parkinson’s disease can also contribute to falls.

Environmental Factors are things like wet floors, icy patches, or uneven pavement can easily cause a slip or trip.

Insufficient lighting can make it difficult to see hazards and navigate obstacles like furniture, cords, or other items safely.

Lack of support can make it difficult to maintain balance, especially on stairs or in the bathroom.

Physical and Cognitive Conditions include things like weak leg and core muscles can reduce stability and make it harder to recover from a stumble. Difficulty with balance, walking patterns, or coordination can increase the risk of falls.

Then we have impaired vision, or hearing which, can make it harder to identify hazards and react appropriately. Then we have conditions like dementia can affect judgment and awareness of surroundings, increasing fall risk.

Low blood pressure can be an issue especially when rising from a seated or lying position, low blood pressure can cause dizziness and falls.

Conditions like arthritis, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, and heart disease can all impact mobility and balance.

Certain medications, especially those affecting the nervous system, can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or confusion. Taking multiple medications, particularly those with overlapping side effects, can increase fall risk.

The fear of falling can lead to reduced activity, which can further weaken muscles and increase the risk of falls.

Week 33 of 2025

Had a better night last night slept 8hrs 19mins was awake for only 9mins. I got up at 4.40am because I read the time wrong thought it said 4.57 but it was 4.37 silly me.

Jess asked is I could wash towels for her as she was already doing a load of clothes, so I did that washed them and tossed them in the dryer.

This afternoon Jess asked if I could do her a casserole in the slow cooker tomorrow so it will be ready when she gets home from work, I said I would.

I received two packages from Temu this morning a lot of stuff for me to sort through and label as a good part of it is Christmas or birthday gifts.

This arvo I am feeling very emotional and overwhelmed with life had a bit of a cry which gave me a headache. While waiting for Sam this arvo I started t feel stiff and had to stand and move around a bit also it was bloody cold.

I hope tomorrow I feel better than I do now.

I had a wonderful sleep woke up feeling great more with it and with some motivation. I had 9hrs & 16mins sleep and didn’t wake at all.

It is 11C and wet outside, thankfully it wasn’t raining when I went with Sam to wait for transport to arrive.

After Sam went to school I got changed and went to the shops with my sister Sue.

Jess sent me a text letting me know that I didn’t need to meet Sam as she is staying at the school to see her boyfriend Bailey’s play and Bailey’s mum will bring her home, she should be home around 8pm tonight.

I rang Sam to see if she was on her way home, she said she would come over and see me when she got home.

Tim got pissed about be referring to Sam as she, say he is a male not a female. I said nothing couldn’t see the point.

I had a pretty damn good sleep, except for a dream about Tim not loving me anymore, I have these dreams from time to time. I know it is just a dream and have no doubt about how much Tim loves me.

I slept for 9hrs 32mins and was awake for 32mns

Anyway, it is a cold 11C but not too cold so that’s good.

I sorted out the boxes of photos in frames that came off the walls when the house was painted. So instead of having them spread over 4 storage containers they are in 1. I also found a few photos I want to rehang.

Sam said that she will have a new transport driver from Monday, if the new driver doesn’t contact Jess over the weekend, I will have to meet the driver on Monday and let them know that Sam doesn’t’’ require transport on Monday’s as she has Tafe on Monday’s. Jess should be contacted though.

This evening, I started the online0 application for the disability support pension. I will finish it over the weekend.

Tim home late at 8.15 and he is now working Sunday morning.

I had another good night had 9hr25mins sleep was awake for 19mins. 10C this morning.

Jess bought me Macca’s for breakfast, but the muffin was so burnt I was unable to eat it.

Jess also said she would send her other work shirt over with Sam a bit latter, well I rang her at 2pm asking for the shirt so I could do the washing.

It has been cold on and off all day.

I fell over while putting the work shirts in the dryer, no damage done.

I’m struggling but I am still here trying to do the best I can day after day

Hi, everyone, I guess you would have noticed that during the last few weeks my posting hasn’t been up to scratch but that should be changing as I am going to start setting apart one day a week to write up posts which is what I have done for years but recently I stopped doing that and was writing the post the day I was posting it.

Now for a bit of honesty as I am sure most are aware I have Parkinson’s Disease well the last couple of weeks I have felt overwhelmed and in so much pain day after day, in the evenings I often feel so tired it is an effort to focus and stay awake but when I say I am going to bed early Tim will say something that makes me feel that I shouldn’t be and I know he doesn’t mean to make me feel bad in any way but I do.

My day starts at 5am and yeah, I know some would say why get up so early, but I like the quiet of the morning and I am most productive first thing by 10am I am starting to feel worn out and need to put my feet up and rest for a while. I am thankfully able to do most of the housework there was a while there before I was medicated that I could do bugga all.

During these really cold days I have been getting a lot of headaches and body aches and having moments when everything seems too much to deal with.

I have daily pain and stiffness, at times I have insomnia (but thankfully I am sleeping well at the moment), weakness, and stiffness when standing and walking for a bit till my legs come good.  I have to stand and get my balance, and the first few steps can look odd but once things start to work, I am ok. I have had times when sitting is uncomfortable due to my body aching or me starting to feel stiff all over.

I often struggle to get words out the path between my brain and mouth is often blocked and can make things difficult. I will often jumble up what I am trying to say, and it is frustrating to me.  Tim often comments that I take too long to answer him but I’m doing the best I can.

Swallowing can be an issue at times and yeah, I know I should take smaller bites, and I do try to do so but there are times I don’t remember to do so, there have been many times when food gets stuck, and I am chocking and coughing trying to dislodge it.

I have gained weight again and this is very depressing for me, telling me to eat less doesn’t help reminding me how much weight others in the family have lost doesn’t help, it just depresses me more.

My body can get very cold during winter and very hot during summer and having someone comment oh you’re cold or oh you’re hot with that shocked tone is also depressing for me. I can’t change how I am all I can do is try and cope the best I can.

Life at the moment is a roller coaster that is moving slow, my emotions are all over the place some days and I feel that the cold wet days are affecting my moods, making it more difficult to deal with the depression.

I cannot thank my sister Sue enough for giving me back a sense of a normal life, I get to go shopping regularly, I have someone to take me to appointments and someone who I can laugh with, and we do laugh a lot when together.

I am blessed with a loving and supportive family and none of them say or do anything to intentionally upset me but there are times when I feel some do not want to take the time to read and understand how Parkinson’s having is affecting me.

Some may think I should take a break from blogging, but it is a big part of what keeps me going day after day, like having to ring Sam 4 or 5 times in the morning to make sure she is up and getting ready for school.

There are days when everything feels like such a struggle and way too much effort is needed to do anything and everything.

Anyway I am hoping that I will continue to improve and I will make sure each Sunday I will take the time to write up posts  for the following week.

My next appointment is in January that one will be a face-to-face appointment.
