Eye Care

Ok I am going to share a bit more about our eyes today I am focusing on eye care. Our eyes are so important, and we need to try and take care of them.

One simple thing we can do is to wear eye protection not just when working around or with things that capable of harming our eyes, but we now know that our eyes also need to be protected from the sun thus, the reason we should wear sunglasses. Most of us know we shouldn’t look directly at the sun.

However, there are some who do not realise that snow reflects a lot of light and the glare can also damage our eyes through snow blindness, this is why snow goggles should be regarded as essential when enjoying the snow.

Something many don’t think about is cleaning our eyes this is simple to so by washing our face of a morning to remove what many will call the sleep around our eyes overnight. We also should remove any make up before going to bed at night. Then there are those who wear contact lenses, some have left their contacts in longer than what is considered safe and do not clean their contacts as often as they should.

Now days there is the damage that can be done by sitting in front of a computer screen, if you are finding your eyes feeling itchy and dry then you need to take a break from staring at the screen. Apparently when we are looking at the computer screen we don’t blink enough, anyone who finds their eyes feeling dry or itchy they should consider using some dry eye drops also know as artificial tears.

As we age having our eyes checked by an optometrist which here in Australia is free to do. I have my eyes checked every year as I have diabetes.

I will write more about the different conditions that can affect the eyes in future posts.

Week 43 of 2025

I had a really good night, slept straight through and woke feeling good, it is a cool 15C or 59F.

I had 8hrs and 45mins of sleep and by 7am it is 18C or 62F. I managed to hurt my hip again, I slipped while sitting at the computer because the shorts I have on are Lycra and they slip and slide on the chair, so I use a towel to prevent that but didn’t have the towel on the chair at the time.

I went and got Jess’s work shirts as I am doing the laundry. Even with a sore hip I managed to hang the clothes up to dry and Tim took them outside in the sun.

I didn’t have a nap and this afternoon I am really tired.

It has reached a top of 26C or 78F, I even had a shower this afternoon as I was so dripping in sweat.

Steps: 13,291 = 6.8klm’s or 4.2 miles

I had a good night’s sleep took me an hour to settle but I did get 6hrs & 50 Mins of sleep, and I am feeling ok this morning. It is a cool 13C at 5.30am I did wake up with a headache on the left side of my head.

I was surprised when Sam arrived at 6am she was here for an hour.

I mopped the floors and washed the towels, oh and I sorted the medication for the next 4 weeks.

By 11am it was 31C or 87F and went up to 35C or 95F.

Tasha is in a lot of pain and can barely walk she will see the doctor on Wednesday, and we expect she will need another Xray or scan.

By bedtime at 8pm it was 25C

Steps: 8,251 = 4klm’s

I had a good night’s sleep got a good 9hrs and 45 mins my watch said I was awake for 28 mins but I have no memory of waking at all.

It’s a nice 15C at 5.30am, I vacuumed, ironed the work shirts, emptied the bins and unpacked the dishwasher, oh and folded the towels all by 7am.

At 8am it was 20C or 68F, thankfully today isn’t going to be as hot as yesterday.

Tim had someone come and clean the solar panels, he arrived at 8.15 and was here for an hour and did a good job.

I had an hour nap which felt good.

The temperature reached 25C or 73F.

I had a nap from 11am to midday.

Well, it sure did heat up by mid-afternoon it was 37C or 98.6F, I am glad I don’t have to go outside in this heat.

The temperature at 8.30pm was 24C or 75F

BGL:7.7

I didn’t feel like getting up so I laid in bed for an extra 15mins, I had a shower after Tim left for work. The t3emp this morning is 15C or 59F.

I have a doctor’s appointment at 8.24am. The appointment went well I have to have an Xray and a scan done of my right hip, he says it may be bursitis.

After the doctors we went to Lake Fair shopping centre I went to get batteries for Tim but was unable to find the size he wanted.

Tasha came down to get two eggs and some bread for her lunch, Tim’s bread only contained the crusts also known as the end of the bread and 1 slice and I know Timm will not eat the crusts I gave it to Tasha. Well, when Tim got home he wanted to know where his bread was, I told him and he went on about it saying there was more bread the that.

It has been a much cooler day to temp was 25C or 77F

Tim was already up and doing research for the job he is doping, this means looking at photos to make sure doesn’t take the bus down a road or driveway he isn’t able to turn around. He is doing the Crowded House concert.

I decided to order pizza; I don’t do that very often.

I did the ironing and it left me exhausted, I also spilt Pepsi while trying to pour myself a drink, then when I was trying to add water to the iron I spilt the water in the kitchen, cleaned that up, the spilt the next lot in the lounge-room and  then cleaned that up and when I wanted another drink I rang Jess and she came and filled my cup for me.

Sam and Bailey came down for cheese, ham and bread. Later on they came back just to say hi and show me what they got when they went to the Pride Festival.

Indonesian National Anthem

Hi, everyone well Friday is here again and today so here is some information about the national anthem of Indonesia. The anthem is called Indonesia Raya it has been the national anthem since the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence on 17 August 1945.

The first stanza of “Indonesia Raya” was chosen as the national anthem when Indonesia proclaimed its independence on 17 August 1945.

The song is played in flag raising ceremonies in schools across Indonesia every Monday. The flag is raised in a solemn and timed motion so that it reaches the top of the flagpole as the anthem ends. The main flag raising ceremony is held annually on 17 August to commemorate Independence Day. The ceremony is led by the President and is usually held in Merdeka Palace.

In 1951, ownership of the copyright to “Indonesia Raya” came into question. President Sukarno ordered a search for the rightful heir to Soepratman.  By law, Supratman was the copyright holder of “Indonesia Raya” as its composer. After Soepratman’s death in 1938, ownership of the rights to his works fell upon the designated heirs, his four surviving sisters. However, because “Indonesia Raya” was officially adopted as the national anthem of Indonesia on 17 August 1945, the work became the property of the state. In addition, the name of “Wage Rudolf Supratman” must be listed as its creator.

As a national anthem, copies of “Indonesia Raya” cannot be circulated as merchandise to be sold. Consequently, the government had the obligation to obtain all the rights to distribute the song, including the original recording, from Yo Kim Tjan. In 1958, the government obtained the sole right to “Indonesia Raya” from Soepratman’s family.  The following year, Yo handed the original record of the song to the Indonesian government. With the recommendation of the Department of Education, the government also rewarded Soepratman’s sisters with 250,000 Indonesian rupiah each on 31 May 1960.

Here is the English translation

Indonesia, our native country,

Our birthplace,

Where we all arise to stand guard

Over this our Motherland:

Indonesia our nationality,

Our people and our country.

Come then, let us all exclaim

Indonesia united.

Long live our land,

Long live our state,

Our nation, our people, and all

Arise then, its spirit,

Arise, its bodies

For Great Indonesia.

CHORUS

Indonesia the Great, independent and free,

Our beloved country.

Indonesia the Great, independent and free,

Long live Indonesia the Great!

Indonesia, an eminent country,

Our wealthy country,

There we shall be forever.

Indonesia, the country of our ancestors,

A relic of all of us.

Let us pray

For Indonesia’s prosperity:

May her soil be fertile

And spirited her soul,

The nation and all the people.

Conscious be her heart

And her mind

For Indonesia the Great.

CHORUS

Indonesia, a sacred country,

Our victorious country:

There we stand

Guarding our true Mother.

Indonesia, a beaming Country,

A country we love with all our heart,

Let’s make a vow

That Indonesia be there forever.

Blessed be her people

And her sons,

All her islands, and her seas.

Fast be the country’s progress

And the progress of her youth

For Indonesia the Great.

It is 16C or 60F at 6.30am and we are in for another hot day but right now it is lovely with the front and back sliding doors open.

I went with Tim to Kmart he wants a pedestal fan; however, they didn’t have any, so we went to the Reject shop, but they also didn’t have any.

By midday the temperature was 29C or 84F, Tim made me a chicken schnitzel bread roll for my lunch.

By 2pm it was 32C or 89F and my lower back/hip area is very painful with back spasms.

At around 4pm Tasha came down looking for food, Tim brought up how she is getting the careers allowance for me but is doing bugga all. Voices got raised and I felt stuck in the middle. Tasha pointed out that at this time I prefer having Sue’s company.

By 6pm the temperature had dropped to 24C or 75F and by bedtime it was a nice 21C

SANDRA’S BIRTHDAY SHE IS 48 TODAY

I had a shocking night between the dyskinesia and the spasms in my right hip I didn’t get much sleep, only had 5hrs& 35 mins. I woke at 4.50 and got up to pee, I took my meds and decided to go back to bed till Tim left, I then got up and had a shower.

I have decided to use the walker instead of the cane to see if that helps with the hip pain.

I managed to do a load of washing and hang it out to dry.

I went to lunch with my sisters at Warners at the Bay, it was great we laughed a lot, and Sandy liked her birthday present from me.

Then I had my physio appointment, and the therapist was pleased with my progress. My next appointment is on the 11 November at 13.30. I took the walker when I went out.

My hip started to give me a lot of pain around 5pm.

DAD’S BIRTHDAY & MY NIECE ISSY’S AS WELL SHE IS TURNING 21

What a horrible night I had an interrupted night waking 3 times to pee. I went to bed at 8pm but at 10pm while trying to roll onto my left side I had a great deal of pain and was in distress, Tim came in and helped me get up and he rubbed deep heat into my hip and told me three times I need to see a doctor but I feel what’s the point it isn’t like anything can be done for the hip other then what I am already doing.

My watch says I had 5hrs & 31 mins of sleep which sounds about right to me. I felt part of the problem last night was that I was stiff, this morning the pain is still there but I am moving about and it’s not so bad.

It is 16C at 6am we are in for a hot day with the top being 31C, for all those not in my part of the world I will remind you we are still in spring.

We went shopping with Sue, then we went to the cemetery and left a birthday card for dad. When I got home, I was that exhausted that Tasha and Sue made me have a nap, after which I felt much better.

I have set the new laptop up and all is good.

The temperature at bedtime is 22C or 71F

Around 7pm we had a small storm with strong winds, but it didn’t last long.

I went to bed at 7.30pm but found I had restless body and after an hour tossing and turning I got up and used the powerfit before going back to bed.

The temperature dropped to around 23C thankfully.

Steps: 11,526 = 5.9klm’s or 3.7 miles

It is a pleasant 18C as I write this at 6.30am.

Tim and I went down to the shops but since we went early some of stuff, I wanted from the bakery wasn’t available.

Spoke to Kathy each Saturday when we talk she has such interesting stuff about our family ancestors to tell me I am loving it.

Physio went well, the physio’s name is Noah, and he was nice, I have of course been given some exercises to do each day I go back on the 2nd.

I set up the Cpap machine Tim bought for his use, it is actually an Apap machine, something I have never heard of, I didn’t have to set a pressure number. I hope it helps him. However, he does have issues with a blocked nose and that may make things difficult, but we will see.

Had a better night last night slept 8hrs 19mins was awake for only 9mins. I got up at 4.40am because I read the time wrong thought it said 4.57 but it was 4.37 silly me.

Tim cooked lunch both Tasha and Jess came, Sam came down but didn’t stay as Tim didn’t cook enough as he cooked crumbed lamb cutlets and I am not A fan of them, I only had a couple of bites and Tasha had the rest.

Jess asked is I could wash towels for her as she was already doing a load of clothes, so I did that washed them and tossed them in the dryer.

Jess sent me a text letting me know that I didn’t need to meet Sam as she is staying at the school to see her boyfriend Bailey’s play and Bailey’s mum will bring her home, she should be home around 8pm tonight.

I rang Sam to see if she was on her way home, she said she would come over and see me when she got home.

Anyway, it is a cold 11C but not too cold so that’s good.

I sorted out the boxes of photos in frames that came off the walls when the house was painted. So instead of having them spread over 4 storage containers they are in 1. I also found a few photos I want to rehang.

Sam said that she will have a new transport driver from Monday, if the new driver doesn’t contact Jess over the weekend, I will have to meet the driver on Monday and let them know that Sam doesn’t’’ require transport on Monday’s as she has Tafe on Monday’s. Jess should be contacted though.

This evening, I started the online0 application for the disability support pension. I will finish it over the weekend.

Tim home late at 8.15 and he is now working Sunday morning.

It has been cold on and off all day.

I fell over while putting the work shirts in the dryer, no damage done.

I’m struggling but I am still here trying to do the best I can day after day

Hi, everyone, I guess you would have noticed that during the last few weeks my posting hasn’t been up to scratch but that should be changing as I am going to start setting apart one day a week to write up posts which is what I have done for years but recently I stopped doing that and was writing the post the day I was posting it.

Now for a bit of honesty as I am sure most are aware I have Parkinson’s Disease well the last couple of weeks I have felt overwhelmed and in so much pain day after day, in the evenings I often feel so tired it is an effort to focus and stay awake but when I say I am going to bed early Tim will say something that makes me feel that I shouldn’t be and I know he doesn’t mean to make me feel bad in any way but I do.

My day starts at 5am and yeah, I know some would say why get up so early, but I like the quiet of the morning and I am most productive first thing by 10am I am starting to feel worn out and need to put my feet up and rest for a while. I am thankfully able to do most of the housework there was a while there before I was medicated that I could do bugga all.

During these really cold days I have been getting a lot of headaches and body aches and having moments when everything seems too much to deal with.

I have daily pain and stiffness, at times I have insomnia (but thankfully I am sleeping well at the moment), weakness, and stiffness when standing and walking for a bit till my legs come good.  I have to stand and get my balance, and the first few steps can look odd but once things start to work, I am ok. I have had times when sitting is uncomfortable due to my body aching or me starting to feel stiff all over.

I often struggle to get words out the path between my brain and mouth is often blocked and can make things difficult. I will often jumble up what I am trying to say, and it is frustrating to me.  Tim often comments that I take too long to answer him but I’m doing the best I can.

Swallowing can be an issue at times and yeah, I know I should take smaller bites, and I do try to do so but there are times I don’t remember to do so, there have been many times when food gets stuck, and I am chocking and coughing trying to dislodge it.

I have gained weight again and this is very depressing for me, telling me to eat less doesn’t help reminding me how much weight others in the family have lost doesn’t help, it just depresses me more.

My body can get very cold during winter and very hot during summer and having someone comment oh you’re cold or oh you’re hot with that shocked tone is also depressing for me. I can’t change how I am all I can do is try and cope the best I can.

Life at the moment is a roller coaster that is moving slow, my emotions are all over the place some days and I feel that the cold wet days are affecting my moods, making it more difficult to deal with the depression.

I cannot thank my sister Sue enough for giving me back a sense of a normal life, I get to go shopping regularly, I have someone to take me to appointments and someone who I can laugh with, and we do laugh a lot when together.

I am blessed with a loving and supportive family and none of them say or do anything to intentionally upset me but there are times when I feel some do not want to take the time to read and understand how Parkinson’s having is affecting me.

Some may think I should take a break from blogging, but it is a big part of what keeps me going day after day, like having to ring Sam 4 or 5 times in the morning to make sure she is up and getting ready for school.

There are days when everything feels like such a struggle and way too much effort is needed to do anything and everything.

Anyway I am hoping that I will continue to improve and I will make sure each Sunday I will take the time to write up posts  for the following week.
