Earth Facts-Water

Hello Monday, hello fact day, hello whoever is reading this this week’s Earth facts concern water.

Around 71% of the Earth is covered in water, I am sure many of you would know this fact, I did. This water makes up five oceans and many smaller seas.

The worlds oceans not only important for the vast numbers of creatures that live in them, but they also influence our weather and climate conditions.

Around 70% of the oxygen we breath is produced by the oceans.

The water absorbs heat from the Sun particularly in tropical regions and carries it over the Earth is surface currents which affect the top 350 metres of the ocean.

Very cold water from the North and South Poles sinks beneath the warmer surface currents and drifts towards the equator, where it is warmed by the Sun, and becomes a surface current itself. It then changes direction drifting back towards the poles where it becomes a colder deep current again.

  1. Dearest Jo-Anne,

Yes, the Oceans cover the biggest part of the world.

Haha, talking about that Arctic current… When we both went to Hawaii, the ONLY time in December, we thought we can go to the beach.

Nope—Pieter spotted all the people wearing wat suits and that was not a good sign.

Sure enough, due to the cold and warm currents meeting there, they had the world’s surfing event. Yes, it creates great surfing waves but COLD.

So we learned the hard way and on top of that, we had only access to one day at the pool as they started breaking it up for renovation.

Life cannot be ongoing ‘smooth sailing’…

We just got back from a visitation of one of our Church members. He was 77 and died rather unexpectedly due to Parkinson’s. The reason actually was his fall end of November and with a broken hip he went downward fast…

Oh, it is so tricky for NOT falling and I apologized for giving my left hand as my cane (an old teak one that we gifted Pieter’s Mother back in the mid 80s) is carved for the right hand. Don’t want to take any risks and go without any support…

Grateful for having gained ONE pound this week and now weighing 45.9 kg!

    There is hope…!

    Hugs,

    Mariette

  2. Falling isn’t good and can cause so many other problems as we age, falling at age 5 is different to falling at age 55 or 65 then we can do more damage. Good to read you have gained a little weight
