Today I am writing a bit about why we need oxygen
We need oxygen because it helps our bodies make energy. Every cell in the body needs energy to do its job, such as helping us move, think, grow, heal, and stay alive. Oxygen works with the food we eat, especially glucose, so our cells can release energy through a process called cellular respiration.
When we breathe in, oxygen enters our lungs and then moves into our blood. The blood carries oxygen around the body to all our cells. Inside the cells, oxygen helps turn food into a form of energy called ATP, which powers important body activities like heartbeat, breathing, muscle movement, and brain function.
Without enough oxygen, cells cannot make enough energy. This can make a person feel weak, dizzy, or confused, and if oxygen is missing for too long, cells can become damaged or die. That is why oxygen is essential for life.
When we exercise, our muscles work harder and need more energy. To make this extra energy, our cells need more oxygen. This is why we start breathing faster and deeper, because our lungs are bringing more oxygen into the body and removing more carbon dioxide.
Our heart also beats faster during exercise. This helps pump oxygen-rich blood to the muscles more quickly so they can keep moving. After exercise, we may keep breathing heavily for a little while because the body is still bringing in oxygen and helping the muscles recover.
